Tacos

Mexican

Ingredients

  • For the taco filling: 1 lb ground beef (or substitute with chicken, turkey, pork, or tofu for a vegetarian option) 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 small onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat) Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup tomato sauce or diced tomatoes 1/4 cup water Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, diced onions, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, cilantro, lime wedges For assembling the tacos: 8-10 small taco shells or tortillas (corn or flour, according to preference)

Cooking Instruction

Prepare the taco filling: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes. Add the ground beef (or other protein) to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the spices are fragrant. Add the tomato sauce (or diced tomatoes) and water to the skillet. Stir well to combine. Simmer the taco filling for about 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly. Adjust seasoning to taste. Assemble the tacos: Warm the taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions. Spoon the taco filling into each taco shell or tortilla. Top the tacos with your desired toppings, such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, diced onions, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve: Arrange the assembled tacos on a platter and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade tacos with your favorite sides, such as rice, beans, or corn salad.
